Babies do not witch or snap their teeth until after the age of four. This occurs when the first permanent molar appears or the temporary lower molars run forward, destabilizing the closure and causing wear between the teeth. When the permanent molar is adjusted, this phenomenon stabilizes and stops bruxism, which, incidentally, has no treatment at this age because the neuromiorellating plaques that would control it would interfere with the eruption of permanent teeth.

On the other hand, the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry states that the fluoride supplied in the water in a community provides a safe and effective means against tooth decay. In Colombia the concentrations of fluoride in water are very low, so it is recommended that the pediatric dentist apply topical fluoride during the first consultation. It is not advisable to use a conventional cream, because it contains fluorine that when swallowed by the baby in the cream is absorbed systemically by the body and produces fluorosis (white spots on the teeth).
