Did you know that starting the third month of pregnancy increases the possibility of having gingivitis or dental caries? *

In this very special time of female life, it is normal for most women to be aware of anything that may affect their own health and that of their future baby.

Here are some important recommendations for optimal oral health

“During pregnancy a special attention of the teeth and gums is necessary, since they increase the hormones called prolactin and the estrogens, that condition changes in the whole organism and, also, in the mouth”.

In the gestational period there is an increased risk of cavities and increases blood flow that produces more bleeding in the gums, better known as gingivitis. This type of disorder is more frequent from the third month of pregnancy.

  • Always prevent. To avoid possible dental conditions it is key to maintain good dental hygiene during the nine months of pregnancy. It is necessary to care for the teeth after each meal with a fine bristle brush to not irritate the gums, toothpaste with fluoride and clean the tongue.
  • Dental Seda: It is convenient to complete the cleaning with the use of this, on a regular basis, as it helps to reduce bleeding gums and prevent gingivitis.
  • Visit to the Dentist !: It is advisable to periodically visit the oral health expert, at least every three months, during pregnancy, to prevent potential problems in oral health and receive guidance on the most appropriate treatments and detect possible alterations.

The best moment. Ideally any dental treatment should be done before pregnancy, but if this is not possible, the best time is between the fourth and sixth month of pregnancy.

The dental development of the baby begins in the first month of gestation and needs for its correct formation of calcium, magnesium, fluorine, phosphorus and vitamins A, D and C; In other words, maintaining a proper diet during pregnancy will bring you all these vitamins and minerals. Breastfeeding also benefits the baby, since it improves the development of the dental arches and the muscles of the jaws, preventing alterations in the dental occlusion.

It is because of all this that you must perform preventive controls during pregnancy and also, you should set a good example for your children, since they will imitate you in everything you do. Remember it always and do not neglect your oral health or that of your unborn baby.
